ScheduleThe tourney will run for 10 puzzles, for a total of 11 weeks, starting Saturday 23 June and ending Saturday 8 September, barring unforeseen circumstances.Circumstances that of course happened, the end is actually Saturday 15 September.Puzzles will be given on each Saturday, between 12:00 UTC and 18:00 UTC and be due before 06:00 UTC of the Sunday of 2 weeks later. Therefore, 2 puzzles will be in play during each week, aside from the first and last. There is a test puzzle, called 'test2018' due by Saturday 23 June that I'll use to test my setup. I encourage anybody not familiar with the SCT to complete and submit it, so we can catch problems and issues before they impact the tourney. Playing and submittingBoth loading a new puzzle and building a submission file are done using the SpaceChemTool (SCT).The folder of the 2018 tournament is here: drive.google.comDetailed instructions about the SCT use are in the.Solution files exported by the SCT must be sent to my address: crudepatategmailcom. Include in the email your nickname and the puzzle name.If the solution is particularly complicated (or even if you feel like it), dropping a couple of lines in the email with an explanation would help me.Be careful with the deadline, any solution coming after the deadline will still be analysed and shown, but won't score points for its creator. It's not necessary to have submitted all the previous puzzles to submit a score, I invite anyone that has completed a puzzle to submit its solution.
I was thinking I might try submitting at least one puzzle for this tournament. However, I'm having some difficulty using the SpaceChem tool and would appreciate some advice. I did read the directions in the thread from the 2015 tournament (linked to above), but the 2015 directions were not sufficient for me to understand the steps I need to do.I am on Windows 10. Here's what I have done so far:1.

I downloaded the entire folder called 'SpaceChem Tournament 2018' from the Google drive link above and unzipped the copy on my computer.2. I opened the file 'defaultconfig.txt' in a text editor and changed the line 'User=Solver' to 'User=Jeff'.
I saved the file.3. I ran the file 'SpaceChemTool.exe' by double-clicking it.
A command prompt window appeared and disappeared so quickly that I couldn't see anything that might have been in the command prompt window. A file called 'config.txt' appeared in the same folder as the SpaceChemTool. The contents of that file appear to be a copy of the 'defaultconfig.txt' file that I had just edited.4. I realized that the 2015 directions asked us to run the tool using the command prompt and offered some command syntax to do that. So I opened a command prompt by clicking the start menu and typing 'cmd.exe'. I navigated to the folder of the SpaceChemTool by typing 'cd' followed by the path to the tool. I then typed 'SpaceChemTool play test2018'.
This generated an error that said: 'System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format' (followed by some technical jargon such as an 'exception' number). I also tried the string 'SpaceChemTool play round1', literally the command suggested in the 2015 instructions, but it produced the same error.5.
I opened the 'test2018' folder and saw it contains one file, 'test.puzzle.' I opened this file in my text editor and saw it contains a string of characters. I thought this string might be readable by SpaceChem, so I copied the string to the clipboard.6. I ran SpaceChem, went into ResearchNet, clicked on 'Create or Import an Assignment,' then clicked the 'Import' button. After confirming in a dialogue box, the puzzle appeared.7.
I created a solution to the puzzle in SpaceChem. I exited the SpaceChem editor, clicked on my solution, and clicked on the 'Export' button. Then in the dialogue box that appeared, I clicked the option to copy my solution to the clipboard. That's where I'm at now. I could paste the string of characters that represents my solution into a text file and send it by email, but that wouldn't involve use of the SpaceChemTool. That would be simply importing and exporting puzzles using SpaceChem's built-in import and export capabilities. I'm not sure how (or why) I'm supposed to be using the SpaceChemTool, though I assume it improves upon the game's existing import and export capabilities in some manner.
Can someone provide clearer instructions on how to make it work? I don't have much to offer; you can try running 'buildwindows.bat' first as per and using the slightly more specific 'SpaceChemTool.exe play round1'.
But seems unlikely any of that is going to help.Past my none-existent technical knowledge the in-game export does not export solutions; just the puzzle. Without this custom tool traditionally you'll have to use screenshots. I can't speak for12345ieee but hopefully those will still be accepted in case the tool doesn't work. Furthermore the tool allows for easy sharing of all the solutions once the puzzle is done; a huge boon compared to having to re-create each solution by hand from screenshots. So yeah it is worth it but as said hopefully not mandatory.Anyways yeah I'm also still here and participating.
I want to say I'll take it lighter this year but no promises.
Normally I play and almost only that. Recently though I can’t make screenshots of the games anymore, which makes “playing these scenarios” and “preparing for blog posts” utterly difficult. Luckily Steam offers a wide range of solutions. Namely other games. So I distracted myself with SpaceChem, a nice chemistry puzzle game.NO WORRIES: I didn’t love chemistry in school and there is no need to know anything about it. The game has a great learning curve and you’ll be up to speed in no time.Since I play no games without achievements (gamification really works on me), here’s my SpaceChem Steam Achievement GuideEven though SpaceChem puzzles, once they’re finished, look extremely complex, they’re relatively easy to build.
